When I help clients with their time management, their initial goal is often different than the “real goal” that they later discover to be the most important to them.
The initial goal is often “the bridge” they need in order to achieve their real goal.
The end goal is never: managing your time better, improving your time management skills, planning better, prioritizing more effectively, or freeing up more of your time, just for the sake of doing it.
The end goal is about creating that lasting change in your life for bigger and more important things to happen easily.
Achieving these goals allows you to operate at another level and create a bigger and better version of yourself.
Here are a few questions to consider:
Where would you spend your time if you could free up 10 hours a week?
What will having more time/focus/energy allow you to do?
What difference would it make if you had more time/focus/energy?
Would more time/focus/energy allow you to pursue bigger opportunities?
What would more time/focus/energy allow you to accomplish?
When you ask yourself these questions, you can see beyond the goal and see what achieving the goal allows you to do.
This process helps you clarify your vision and discover what matters.
This could be to grow your business, improve your health, do more of what you love to do, get a promotion, or have more time with people who matter to you - whatever is most meaningful to you.
From here onwards, if managed well, it is an upward spiral! ⤴️😊
➡️When you can see a compelling vision of how you want your life to be in the future, you get clear on what having more time allows you to do and achieve.
➡️You are far more likely to manage your time better and be more productive if you have a clear vision -of how your life will be better if you had more time to achieve the results you want-.
➡️You will be more inspired to take action if you can see the lasting impact of what having more time allows you to do.
Today I want to share a simple success tip that will help you make faster progress towards reaching your goals.
Once we set a goal, the first instinct is often to build an action plan to take the first step towards achieving that goal. This may include writing down all the different things we can do to make progress on our goals. But, there is another way to make faster progress towards your goals.
Once you have set the outcome of your future goal, instead of creating an action plan.....do something different.
Start by identifying all of the obstacles that currently stand in the way of you achieving your goal.
List all the obstacles, then identify the three biggest obstacles.
Knowing the obstacles that oppose your goals will help you focus your time, energy, and attention on eliminating those obstacles one by one.
The outcome of achieving the goal must be motivating and have a real transformative value in your life. When your goal is exciting and motivating, it's easier to identify the obstacles.... because you really want to achieve the goal.
Once you have your obstacles, you need a strategy to handle each of them, one by one.
This is the sweet spot for you to create that action plan!
Now, I invite you to journal about the below questions:
What will more time allow you to do?
What is your biggest goal?
What's your biggest obstacle right now?
